02 - Our Pastor
Rev. Dr. William P. Butler is a transformational pastor, teacher, and community leader whose life is a powerful testimony of redemption, resilience, and purpose. Born on June 21, 1975, in Dallas, Texas, his early years were marked by personal hardship following his parents' divorce, leading him into juvenile delinquency. At the age of 15, however, his life took a decisive turn when he accepted Christ, was baptized, and soon thereafter answered the call to preach the Gospel. That call has now matured into more than three decades of faithful and impactful ministry, grounded in lived experience, spiritual depth, and an unwavering commitment to reaching people where they are.
After graduating with honors from Justin F. Kimball High School, Dr. Butler pursued advanced technical and academic training at the Naval Nuclear Engineering Academy and served honorably in the United States Navy. His journey later led him to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was licensed and ordained at Olive Branch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Reginald Nicholas, Sr. Ordained in 1998 through the Christian Progressive Educational Association and married that same year to his wife, Nikomii Butler, Dr. Butler continued an extensive academic path, earning degrees in Information Systems, Theology, and Clinical Counseling. His education reflects a holistic approach to ministry, equipping him to serve the spiritual, emotional, and practical needs of individuals and families.
Dr. Butler is widely known for blending ministry, entrepreneurship, and community care. A serial entrepreneur and founder of Butler Community Health, he has built a counseling and life-coaching organization that serves more than 200 patients weekly, bridging the gap between faith and mental health services. Following displacement from Hurricane Katrina in 2005, he relocated to Tennessee, eventually accepting the call in 2009 to pastor Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Morristown, then a congregation of just 14 members. Under his visionary leadership, the church has grown into a vibrant, multicultural ministry impacting lives across generations. Known for his warm spirit, practical preaching, and radical love for people, Rev. Dr. Butler often says that of all his accomplishments, the title he treasures most is simple and eternal: 'I have a B.A. I've been Born Again.'
Grace and peace, - Pastor Butler

He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be moved.Psalm 62:6 (KJV)
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God - our sole guide for faith and practice.
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - equal in power and glory.
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death on the cross, bodily resurrection, and His coming return.
We believe salvation is a gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone - not by works, but by the finished work of the cross.
We believe the church is the body of Christ, called to worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and the proclamation of the Gospel.
We practice believer's baptism by immersion and observe the Lord's Supper as an ordinance given by Christ to His church.
